that people nationwide, they are honoring the victims of the mass shooting in connecticut. locally, dozens gathered last night for a vigil in gilroy. organizers at south valley community church say it gave people a chance to get together and share their thoughts. >> having an environment a venue like this i think helps people kind of process it and then being able to give resources that kind of help people continue that journey. >> the names of all the newtown victims were read and a candle was lit for each of them. another vigil is planned at 6:00 tonight at amaral park in pleasanton. >>> well, this morning a more detailed picture is emerging of the gunman who killed more than two dozen people. acquaintances of adam lanza was smart but his mother who was also killed told friends he had a mental disability. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in our newsroom with more. >>> reporter: a man who babysat for the family when adam was 10 said nancy lanza told him to supervise her son at all times and never turn his back on him. lanza reportedly had no close friends in school. the gunman was taking c

unable to find any indication that a gunman was on campus but officers say in the wake of the connecticut shooting, they were not taking any chances. >>> as more funerals are eld had for victims of the shooting in connecticut more details are emerging about adam lanza. workers at a newtown hair salon where lanza and his mother were customers said they never heard him speak. they say his mother nancy lanza would give her son directions about what to do and where to go. meanwhile, investigators still not clear about what motivated adam lanza to open fire at that elementary school last friday. cbs news' marlie hall has more from newtown. >> reporter: hundreds gathered for memorial service to remember sandy hook elementary principal dawn hochsprung. she died trying to stop the shooter after he broke into the school. >> you don't have to know her. you just have to know what she did is an act of selflessness. >> reporter: hochsprung's funeral is one of five today. tuesday saw two more children laid to remember, 6-year-old james mattioli loved sports and math. his family called him a numbers guy
